“The Nexus of Water, Energy, Soil and Food”
In cooperation with the Gustav-Stresemann-Institute, the AGEP hosts a Winter School from 15-17 February 2017 under the title: „The Nexus of Water, Energy, Soil and Food”.
The Winter School will bring together students from several of our academically diverse AGEP study programmes in order to allow for a multiperspective approach on the issues at stake.
A special focus in development policies is the so-called nexus approach. This approach is based on the idea, that most – if not all – sectors of human development are interlinked in a more or less structured way. Looking on the nexus approach in a scientific way we refer to the classic Latin meaning of “the act of binding together” and we focus on either similarities or differences by comparing and assessing those sectors. By using the nexus approach scientists try to bundle similarities between the sectors and bringing together different perspectives and standpoints. In this special context of development the workshop aims on bringing together different perspectives on the three sectors of water security, energy security and food security, which are inextricably linked by natural and socio-economic means. This translates into the understanding, that actions in one area more often than not have impacts in one or both of the other areas. This basic understanding opens the floor for discussion and exchange of ideas between the participants, which are mostly students of various DAAD-AGEP study programs, dealing with the management of natural resources, water, energy and food.
