Since 2005 Dr. Gabriele Bäcker has been the Executive Director of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) at the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB).
Prior to this, Dr. Bäcker was in charge of coordinating the Master programme “Development Management” at the RUB, a study programme that she also co-initiated.
Her teaching activities involve an economic tutorial, economic reform, financial management and research logic as well as the mentoring of master theses.
She has over the years been involved in a lot of networking projects and activities, amongst them the South African-German Centre for Development Research at the UWC, South Africa since 2008; UA Ruhr Graduate Centre for Development Studies with the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2011 and the coordination of Erasmus-Mundus Action 2 Projekt with 6 south-african and 7 european partners since 2013.
She also possesses a lot of experience in cooperating with the DAAD in different programme lines (German Study Programmes abroad 2002-2006, African Excellence since 2008 and International PhD-Students in Germany 2011-2014)
Dr. Bäcker is a member in several DAAD selection committees: The Carlo-Schmid-Programm, Sommerschulen in Deutschland und im Ausland and in the Alumniprogramm
She is involved in the AGEP since the foundation of the Master in Development Management in 2000, the year the programme joined AGEP.
